Naturopathic Doctors Are Gaining Recognition World Wide

Naturopathic doctor licensing in Colorado

Good article in the New York Times today about efforts (and opponents) toward licensing NDs in Colorado (currently an unlicensed state).

Ignorance is not bliss

Mark Cooper is spot-on when he says “The whole issue is fear-based ignorance.” I find that even in Ontario (a province which licenses NDs) most critics of naturopathic medicine are ignorant as to the training we have and treatment we provide.

This is pretty ironic considering that these critics also demand evidence for naturopathic medicine yet neglect to seek out evidence of the claims that they are making against naturopathic medicine! If they took some time to learn about the profession, they would find lots of information in support of naturopathic doctors and the efficacy and safety of naturopathic medicine. In many cases, the evidence for naturopathic interventions (diet, lifestyle, botanical medicine, Asian medicine, homeopathy) is far more compelling than for the conventional medical treatments.

Modern Technological Guinea Pigs

Human Guinea Pigs

At no time in our evolutionary past has technology moved as quickly as it is now, and never before have we been forced to change our postural habits as far or as fast as we have to now. The agricultural period ushered in a Unknown-1new dynamic in terms of how we used our bodies. We stopped hunting and gathering and started using technology to grow crops and look after Unknown-1animals for our food supply and later to make money by selling these products and other products made from them. Today the majority of us sit in offices using computers and other technology to make money and when we leave for recreational purposes or keeping in contact with family and friends we use smart phones, tablets etc.

Let Food Be Thy Medicine

Let Food Be Thy Medicine And Medicine Be Thy Food

This famous quote was  attributed to Hippocrates a long time ago, if you remember the hippocratic oath before it was purchased by the pharmaceutical companies and Unknownnick named the hippocritic oath, and if you don’t know why read Dr Ben Goldacres  (Bad Pharma) or Dr Peter Gotzsche (Deadly Medicines And Organized Crime: How Big Pharma Has Corrupted Healthcare). A summit on food as medicine was held over this past weekend with 24 of the worlds best researchers in this field. The 5th annual Food Revolution Summit ran from 30 th of April to May 8th 2016 and some of the findings that were released were mind boggling to say the least. Diseases cured/reversed by food, notice I did not say diet, and yet doctors using the most powerful drugs can not cure these diseases. Why do the longest lived people on this planet eat like peasants?Continue reading

The Brain – The Supreme Commander

The Human Brain

By John Bobbin

IMG_1262

The human brain controls everything yet when you look at a human brain it is very unremarkable in appearance, obviously Unknownnot in it’s abilities. When you physically compare the human brain with animal brains it becomes difficult to simply look and determine what it is that gives it the super power that it possesses. There does appear to be some flaws in the way the brain processes, classifies, acts on and makes reasonable decisions from the information. No other animal, and we are classified as primates, destroys it’s own environment (global warming), would risk exterminating it’s own kind (Cuban missile crisis), can not live in harmony with it’s own  kind.Continue reading

The Mind Can Be Very Fragile Or Tough

Psychology

Any practitioner in a health field will marvel at both the fragility and Unknown-1resolution of the human mind. Knowing who will stand up to unyielding pressure and who will cave in has created a lot of research papers. Martin E P Seligman is a pioneer in positive psychology and has spent a lifetime researching in this field. He wrote Authentic Happiness, Learned Optimism and a lot of other books, and conducted experiments on dogs that would not be allowed today but they advanced science in this field a long way by proving helplessness can be learned and reversed to optimism using the same participants (dogs) and before you condemn these studies for using dogs think Pavlov’s salivating dog research and what we have learned from it (both).Continue reading

Mind Chatter

Mind Chatter Can Be Your Undoing

For anyone that has studied mindfulness this will come as no surprise, multi-tasking was a buzz word a few years ago and like all of the other ‘flavours of images-2the month’ the ‘cool’ people embraced it with open arms. Bosses loved the concept of multi-tasking because they could employ less people if they could train employees to develop more skills and do more things at the same time, but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Our brain can not do two things equally well at the same time, and the more thing you introduce the worse it performs. All brain chatter is multi-tasking.Continue reading
