People that engage in high intensity workouts, sport or simply working can cause muscles to form extremely painful trigger points. According to Travel and Simmons trigger points have no flow of oxygen into the muscle cells and because of this they can not complete their Kreb Cycle. The Kreb Cycle is performed by the mitochondria of the cell and it’s job is to make Adenosine triphosphate or ATP, this is the cell’s energy molecule.
Muscles like the adductor muscles have to perform a lot of work when we are moving around and obviously some movements encourage a greater risk of injury for these muscles than others. It is not only the type of movement but also the intensity of movement and duration that elevates the risk. Practitioners have to be aware that there may be muscle tears here as well and they need to be vigilante with technique so as not to cause problems with structures like nerve root, lymph glands, femoral nerve and femoral artery. Sometimes the pain here is actually coming from sciatic nerve impingement as well. Some of the worst injuries for adductors occur because of falls while walking or jogging. Vladimir Janda (1983) developed a series of muscle movement tests to help practitioners diagnose the muscles causing the problems so as not to waste a lot of unnecessary time on muscles that are not causing the problems. These tests have proved invaluable in this clinic whilst working on compensation patients.
Practitioners Trained In NMT Do Best Here
Neuromuscular Therapy (NMT) have the required skills to remove trigger points that form in the fascia of these muscles and without this skill set practitioners may find it very difficult to remove the number of trigger points that often form in these muscles and if they are not removed they will all return. Today a lot of practitioners rush through their remedial massage diplomas and think they know it all, but rest assured you will need far greater skills than those taught in the diploma to get through when confronted by serious problems if you intend to do serious massage like the massage required for workers compensation, or for elite sports people. For some reason some occupations like nursing, teaching and construction arrive in large numbers with these type of injuries, of course high impact sports can cause all sorts of injuries. Another group of sports people who often develop trigger points in the adductors are golfers and tennis players. The human body has a lot of moving parts and all of these movements require muscles to be free of myofascial trigger points.
When dealing with the adductor muscles practitioners have to expect some jokers in the pack.
