Mind Chatter

Mind Chatter Can Be Your Undoing

For anyone that has studied mindfulness this will come as no surprise, multi-tasking was a buzz word a few years ago and like all of the other ‘flavours of images-2the month’ the ‘cool’ people embraced it with open arms. Bosses loved the concept of multi-tasking because they could employ less people if they could train employees to develop more skills and do more things at the same time, but unfortunately it doesn’t work like that. Our brain can not do two things equally well at the same time, and the more thing you introduce the worse it performs. All brain chatter is multi-tasking.Continue reading

Australian Naturopathic Scientist Are Showing The Way

It Is A Great Time To Be An Australian Naturopath

2016 is a perfect time for any Australian school leaver to embark on a career in Naturopathic Medicine. Over the past decade researchers have clearly vindicated the position of naturopaths as leaders in health. Today IMG_1262there is an academic career in Australia for Naturopaths who want to move into mainstream areas of medicine such as Psychiatry, Psychology, Epidemiology, Lifestyle Medicine etc. Forty years ago this was impossible, today it is common, and the future for Australian Naturopaths in clinical practice is the same as it is for all other health practitioners – evidence based medicine led by researchers. Are You Getting Enough Lifestyle Medicine To Live to 50 Or 85+

How Much Lifestyle Medicine Are You Getting Daily

Life doesn’t have to be an ephemeral journey – you can live to 85 + years but you have to know what you are doing and do it daily. If you look at the blue zones, these are areas of the world where people live the longest. you  will see they all live similar lifestyles, with similar diets and none of them belong to a gym or sporting club. I am not

14 Jun 1988, Arles, Bouches du Rhone, France --- Frenchwoman Jeanne Calment at the age of 113 years and 113 days. Calment was born February 21, 1875 in Arles, France and died August 4, 1997 at 122 years, five months and 14 days old. She is known as the oldest person to have lived whose age can be proven by legal documents. Since her death, others have stepped forward claiming to have bettered her age, but she remains the only person with tangible evidence of having lived beyond 120 years. Calment outlived her husband, paternal cousin Fernand Calment, their only child, and their only grandchild. --- Image by © Pascal Parrot/Sygma/Corbis

knocking sport or gyms just merely pointing out that it is not necessary to belong to these institutions to live a very long life.

I can read your mind and you are thinking these people must have great genes.

I can understand people thinking like this but the truth of the matter is that they don’t, researchers have found nothing out of the ordinary here but what they do have is great lifestyles, dietary and behaviourally as well as spiritually. Spirituality in this case does not mean religious, some of these countries are religious but others are not but they all have great spirituality in their lives. Jean Calment a French woman never joined a gym or sporting club yet she became the oldest human being ever by living to 122 years and 164 days. She lived by the rules of Lifestyle Medicine.Continue reading

Mindfulness Can Be A Lifestyle Medicine

Stress Reduction Is Part Of Lifestyle Medicine

When you look at the amount of stress everyone today is experiencing you realise just how important it is to be able to reduce your stress load (Allostatic Load) before it seriously damages your body and mind. Cortisol is part of our stress response and it damages the grey matter of the brain. The Buddhist UnknownMonks have claimed for many years that they can do extraordinary things with mind control. I have 5 Black Belts in full contact karate awarded to me by Harald Falgé a West German Karate Instructor from the city of Düsseldorf in West Germany, Harald was the head of Australian Kempo Kwan and I trained with him from 1972 until 1979 in Cooma and this is where my first contact with Buddhism came from, we all studied meditation.  At the time I was training with Harald neither he, nor I knew that one of my first Australian ancestors was Johann Herres (Anglisised to John Harris after marrying and English woman) from Hannover Northern Germany or I am sure I would have copped some flack from Harald about it.Continue reading

Diabesity On The Move Worldwide

Why Is Diabesity Going Global?

The common perception is that it is all because of America’s most famous exports, fast food outlets but the standard American diet (SAD) doesn’t seem to be much better. Elvis Presley said he loved peanut butter with jelly on top in a sandwich, Elvis left the building early. America, England, New Zealand and Australia all have extremely serious obesity problems, and there is not much difference between countries. China, India and most island countries are now experiencing this global disaster. As countries develop they leave their poverty stricken past behind to move into an obesogenic environment as the wealth seekers find new markets to place their deadly foods.Continue reading

Proven Natural Medicine Is Better – Naturally

Proven Natural Medicine Has To Be Better

This is a no brainer, how could scientifically proven natural medicine be anything but the best.Natural medicine has always struggled to get credible evidence up on the board and often they have blamed the system for doing research claiming Randomised Controlled Trials (RCT’s) images-1designed for the pharmaceutical companies drug trials only suit them. A lot of Naturopaths want to see ‘whole of practice’ trials implemented instead. RCT’s work well for powerful drugs but where a herb or nutrient is concerned the response is nowhere near as large so it often misses the small responses that take a lot longer to show.Continue reading

Metaflammation Could Be The New Germ Theory

Metaflammation Could Be The New Germ Theory

Prof Garry Egger has written these words on several occasions and it could easily be true. Garry has written about this in today’s MUnknown-1-1edical Unknown-2Observer. Metaflammation has multiple causes but if you can tame them you can solve the puzzle of chronic disease. Type 2 Diabetes is the fastest growing chronic disease and the new scourge of developing countries like China and India. Chronic diseases don’t have causes like acute infectious diseases they have determinants.Continue reading

Can Your Lifestyle Change Your DNA?

Can DNA Be Changed BY Lifestyle?

What do we know or think we know so far about genetics and disease. We think we know that diseases like diabetes 2, coronary artery disease, a lot, if not all, cancers are driven images-1by inflammation, that is a low grade systemic inflammation not the inflammation that heals cuts and abrasions. When a gene is methylated it will be selected or  suppressed, so it will cause a disease or be stopped from causing a disease as in lung cancer. Smoking supplies chemicals that cause lung inflammation and over time lung cancer. Excessive calories cause metabolic syndrome and later type 2 diabetes. For decades the researchers were telling us that genetics, our inheritance, was the cause of most diseases. Continue reading

Are You A Flexitarian?

Flexitarians Are Everywhere

I was sitting in a local popular cafe surrounded by creative people, artists, hair dressers Unknown-1and beauticians and a draughtsman, whom I was talking to.
